Description
Conference "Hubble, chronicle of a fruitful failure
by Nicolas Fiolet, astrophysicist and head of the La Coupole 3D Planetarium
When the Hubble Space Telescope was launched in 1990, it was a revolution... which immediately turned into a disappointment: a major optical defect blurred its first images and the satellite's performance was only slightly better than that of ground-based telescopes. However, a technical feat was to restore his sight and make it one of the greatest success stories in scientific history.
Distant galaxies, the birth of stars, measuring cosmic expansion: for 36 years, the telescope has continued to revolutionise our understanding of the universe.
This conference will also be an opportunity to see or re-see some of the telescope's most memorable photos in the planetarium.
All ages | 6€50/adult and 4€50/children
