Focus - "Noh and Kabuki" (21 May > 16 Nov. 2025)
Theatre actors, along with courtesans, are the mainstay of Japanese printmaking. The most talented engravers have produced some of the finest works in the repertoire. Four prints from the collection will introduce you to four celebrities from the Edo period. They are an excellent complement to the display of Noh theatre masks from the Musée Guimet.
A series of special exhibitions on the Japanese collection
The Musée Sandelin has a remarkable Japanese collection, mainly from the 19th century, with the oldest items dating from the 17th century. There are 41 paintings on paper and 175 prints (including 2 collections), some signed by the most famous names, such as Hokusaï (1760-1849), Hiroshige (1797-1858) and Kuniyoshi (1798-1861).
The collection is regularly rotated around a different theme. This allows the collection to be presented to the public in a way that is compatible with its conservation. At the moment, a selection of prints on the theme of divinities and immortals is on display for 6 months.
Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-12pm and 2pm-6pm.
