By Hugo Dehongher, doctoral student and temporary art history lecturer at the University of Lille
In the Middle Ages, Saint-Omer was one of the largest towns in the region. Its most remarkable monuments were the former collegiate church of Notre-Dame (now a cathedral) and the abbey of Saint-Bertin. Our knowledge of these monuments has now been renewed with the publication of a doctoral thesis* on Gothic architecture in the Auvergne region. Its author, Hugo Dehongher, invites you to come and discover the architecture of this largely unknown heritage. This itinerary will include stops at the sites of buildings that have disappeared or been forgotten: the medieval fortifications, and the churches of Sainte-Aldegonde, Saint-Jean, Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Martin.
Meet in front of the Pays de Saint-Omer Tourist Office at 7 place Victor Hugo. Duration: 2 hours.
Booking essential with the Pays de Saint-Omer Tourist Office.
*financed by the Hauts de France region
