The church of Saint-Sulpice in Lumbres, built between 1854 and 1863 in a magnificent neo-Gothic style by the architect Alexandre Grigny, embodies the elegance and architectural richness of the region. Replacing an older church demolished due to dilapidation, it was built of local limestone from the "La Montagne" quarry.

Over the years, this proud structure has faced a number of challenges, including stability problems since 1995. Thanks to the passionate commitment of the Association de sauvegarde du patrimoine de l'église de Lumbres, led by Daniel Prudhomme, an ambitious restoration project was launched in 2010. Supervised by architect Valérie Foret-Hamiaux, the project has stabilised the tower, restored the spire and renovated the nave, while preserving its majestic appearance and historic character.

The restoration was made possible by a public subscription campaign and various grants. In recognition of its heritage value and the quality of its restoration, the church was awarded the prestigious Pèlerin prize "Un patrimoine pour demain" in 2011.

Today, the church of Saint-Sulpice in Lumbres continues to fascinate visitors with its remarkable architecture and rich history. It is not only a monument to faith, but also a living testament to the community's resilience and commitment to preserving its cultural and architectural heritage. A visit will immerse you in the centuries-old history of this church, offering an enriching and memorable experience for lovers of architecture and history.
