A testament to life in the Faubourg de Lyzel in Saint-Omer, the timber-framed, wattle-and-daub market gardener's house dating from 1841 (listed as a Historic Monument) was bought in 2017 by Mrs Sylvie Staëlen-Lemaitre to save this authentic heritage of the Audomarois marshlands.
The owners tell the story of the building and its renovation. The house still bears the scars of the floods of 11 November 2023 and 3 January 2024, but the restoration work continues. Visitors will appreciate the freshness of the place, thanks to the natural materials used in its traditional construction: cob/earth, linen and lime.
This summer, lovers of local architecture and the marsh will be able to visit the house during the day from Thursday to Sunday.
41 rue Saint-Martin, Saint-Omer.
Open from Thursday 3 July to 10 September, Thursday to Sunday, 11am to 5pm.
Open to all. Admission: €2, free for under-18s.
