Les Etangs de la Ballastière

The Ballastières site, constantly changing with the seasons...
Les Ballastières, located to the north of the town of Aire-sur-la-Lys, are former ballast and gravel quarries. When they were no longer in use, the site became a leisure area. Today, appropriate restoration and management aim to enhance the site and develop its environmental potential.
Within this natural area, nature can fully express itself. The creation of a reed bed, ponds and hardy cattle preserve nature, while the closure of part of the site during the nesting season allows it to maintain its natural rhythm. So, for your pleasure and amazement, there are walking trails to take you through this ever-changing environment.
Finally, thanks to a birdwatching point, it's the ideal place to admire the different species that call Ballastières home.

The dragonfly trail is closed for nesting from 1 April to 30 June.

Guided tours from April to September according to programme.
