This church is the chapel of the former Jesuit College. After their departure, it went through various vicissitudes. The faith and perseverance of the town's inhabitants enabled it to escape destruction. You can't ignore it, even though it was modestly built between two town houses, because its splendid white stone façade, recently restored, is a real eye-catcher. The interior also has a few surprises in store.
Dating from the 17th century, this chapel is one of the most characteristic monuments of the Dutch Baroque style. On the outside, the splendid three-storey white façade is a real eye-catcher in the city centre. But it is above all the interior that is breathtaking: a gigantic work, La Gloire, by Magnard, at the back of the room with God looking down on us from heaven.
Booking essential.
Please note: the AGM on Wednesday 20 August will include the Chapelle Saint-Jacques and the courtyard of the Collège des Jésuites.
