Ballast pits are former ballast and gravel quarries. When they were no longer in use, the site became a natural area offering a wide variety of plants that change with the seasons.
At the entrance (or exit) to Aire sur la Lys, in any case to the north, there is a small paradise reclaimed from a former ballast extraction site and transformed into a 20-hectare nature reserve. The site has been carefully restored to allow nature to express itself fully, whatever the season.
Located to the north of the town, the Ballastières are former quarries that have been converted into a sensitive natural area that protects biodiversity.
The walk begins at the car park, and as you stroll along the lush green paths, you discover a rich ecological refuge.
Booking essential. Suitable for all walkers (4 km circuit)
