Beneath its calm and peaceful exterior, Aire has had a turbulent past. Find out more about the history of its historic centre. In the 11th century, Aire-sur-la-Lys was a Flemish town of around 1,000 inhabitants. Life revolved around the castle, protected by powerful walls.
Organised by the Aire-sur-la-Lys Tourist Information Centre, in partnership with the Aire Animation Patrimoine Association and the Pays d'art et d'histoire de Saint-Omer.
